Les Frères Ainsworth

Headstart through passion: Why doing what excites you can be the key to a successful career

WHAT WILL THEIR TEDx TALK BE ABOUT?

For us, the key factor to success is to develop your own passion beside your studies. Statistics show that nowadays, careers often start after turning 25, as studies last longer. In Paris, where we both live, most people start working even later, most of the time between 27 and 30 years old. Our goal is to show that you can start shaping and boosting your career even before it has started. And passion is the key factor to achieve that, as it makes you special, allows you to stand out of the crowd and be appealing to employers. We decided to share our experience with turning our passion into a strong professional asset. We will explain why it is important to push it forward, be perseverant, make great use of social intelligence and self-promotion and do it all beside your working life/studies.

WHO ARE LES FRÈRES AINSWORTH?

Jordan, 25 years old, Paris, Creative Director at Ykone Agency (leading agency in content creation and digital influence specialised in luxury brands).

Eylül Aslan

Berlin based Photographer and Feminist

Passion is the fire that lights my way

WHAT WILL HER TEDx TALK BE ABOUT?

If it had not been for my passion for photography, I would not be sitting down to write this text about my TEDx Talk in Mannheim in the following month of September. My name also happens to mean "September" in Turkish. And I'm where I'm, where I'm the happiest, because of my love for my profession. I never let anyone or anything stop me. Without this passion I would not have known the life that I do in Germany, where I get to do what I love the most: being a photographer.

WHO IS EYLÜL ASLAN

Young photographer Eylül Aslan knows what makes a photograph unique. Working in analogue photography, Aslan has found her passion in photographic portrayals of women and femininity, animated especially by her experience of Turkish society.

Duc Nguyen

A 23 year old University of Mannheim Business Administration student

Why it's a good time to act beyond our mindset.

WHAT WILL HIS TEDx TALK BE ABOUT?

It seems everybody knows that our earth faces crucial ecological problems but we keep telling ourselves: 'I can’t do anything about that. I don’t have enough money to change something. I don’t think anybody would listen to me.' That conversation is going to get directly in the way of our thinking and we start to feel powerless.

But there was no other point in human history when a single person could create a product or tell a story or start an organization that within a matter of days or weeks could reach thousands of people. I believe our generation is the key actor in driving our society forward by engaging opportunities where others see problems. That’s why I want to encourage you to create sustainable solutions with the possibilities of our digital age. Even if your impact seems trivial, sometimes really small ideas can make a big difference.

The Idea of Creating – Why Artists are the Ultimate Entrepreneurs

WHAT WILL HIS TEDx TALK BE ABOUT?

To create something out of nothing that strongly impacts the way we perceive the world around us lies at the core of what artists and entrepreneurs do. While we constantly talk about passion as the key to success, few of us are able to really identify what they are passionate about. Recognising what you’re good at is essentially linked to self-awareness. In this talk, I will share with you what it means to be in a field that you know is your ultimate passion. Working with art and artists on a daily basis, I will showcase why cultural engagement is ultimately linked to perpetual self-reflection. By constantly challenging, scrutinising and evaluating the way we live in the present, artists quintessentially challenge our critical thinking and can give us the self-confidence to carve out our own paths.

WHO IS NICK DEIMEL?

Nick Deimel specialises in Post-War and Contemporary Art working for Sotheby’s in London. Inspecting an Andy Warhol painting under ultraviolet light is as much part of his job as visiting galleries and art fairs in London, New York, Paris, and Hong Kong to look at new and emerging artists. Prior to joining Sotheby’s, Nick worked for a gallery in Berlin and founded “ND Projects” in London, an independent project space that developed and curated site-specific projects with emerging artists. Nick holds a BSc in Business Administration from the University of Mannheim and Tel Aviv University as well as a MSc in Management & Strategy from LSE.

Antonia Stille

Winner of the German National Debating Competition

Convincing people: why words are not everything

WHAT WILL HER TEDx TALK BE ABOUT?

We all want to be taken seriously. We want others to listen to us, believe us, and look up to us. But how can we achieve that? It is easy to spot bad speakers, boring teachers or untrustworthy politicians, but what are those people doing wrong? Whether it’s the personal opinion, political conviction or the favorite restaurant for lunch, we have to debate all the time in day-to-day life. We can’t always persuade the other person - in fact we lose quite often. No matter if you are a student or politician, we all make the same mistakes like using monotonous language or filler words. Good rhetoric requires more than expressiveness - learn how to find the right words and why words are not everything.

WHO IS ANTONIA STILLE?

Antonia Stille is the winner of last year’s "Jugend debattiert", the biggest debate competition for youths in Germany. In this nationwide contest, youths have to debate for or against a position on political debates and try to win the audience. Whether you’re pro or con will be drawn out for you, so winning the discussion is a matter of spontaneousness and flexibility with your own knowledge, your arguments, and of course your language.

Chairman of Hackerstolz e.V.

The league of extra-ordinaries and why you’re not part of it

WHAT WILL HIS TEDx TALK BE ABOUT?

When people talk about industry 4.0 or work 4.0, they usually just scratch the surface of what is actually possible. In the next decades a transformation into a digital era will take place, and society is as unprepared for this change as you are for the next math exam. We are on the edge of the biggest shifts society has ever seen in history. This talk will give you insights on this technological progress and its impact on society. Who's going to be the hero in this story - who is going to be in the league of extra-ordinaries?
